Industrial Design

Taking into consideration the demand for measures to improve human lifestyle in the ever-changing world SAFAA Industrial design teaches students to create projects using the way of thinking and creativity typical to design, thus promoting the local manufacturing. The teaching staff engaged in the academicprogramme, guides the students, developing professional skills, creative and critical abilities which are reflected in their ongoing and final works. Academic programme prepares specialists required for the relevant local and international production sectors.

 

 

The working process at Laboratories

 

The students of Industrial design have the opportunity to apply the gained professional knowledge in laboratories and studios of design; using the drawings and sketches as well as therequired toolkit they carry out complete projects to reveal the practical demands of labour market and plan further scope of activities.

 

 

Teaching and administrative staff

 

Successful and effective implementation of the academicprogramme is ensured byteaching and administrative staff who are leading professionals of the field. The educational programme is delivered by Professors with huge experience in the field and young lecturers with professional qualities, as well as representatives of leading companies of labour market. Many modules of educational programme are conducted by direct participation of guest professionals and potential employers.

 

 

Graduates

 

Today the graduates of academic programme of Industrial design evolve activities in professional and related fields. Some of them have started their own businesses; many of them work in leading companies and start-ups.

 

 

Bachelor programme (4 years, 240 ECTS)

 

The mission of bachelor programmein Industrial design is to train highly qualified competitive specialists who will evolve successful activities in the field of industrial design and will promotethrough their professional activitiesthe formation of modern conception of the potential of the field among wider layers of the society as well as the development of the industry in parallel with preservation and dissemination of national cultural peculiarities and values.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

 

Upon successful completeion of bachelor programme in Industrial design, the student will

 

1. possess the knowledgeon complete content of “Industrial design” specialty, know and differentiate the requiredprocesses and their component elements to be applied in sequence to achieve the projects’ successful implementation

 

2. knowmodern trends, innovative technologies in Industrial design as well asindustrial methods based on applied materials, be able to further correctly synthesize the gained knowledge during the projection

 

3. possess the knowledge of applying the relevant toolkit and required skills tobring outthe necessary information from avariety of sources coming out of the nature of the set or identified projection tasks, be able to critically analyze and classify information according to priority

 

4. be able to use all possible formats of presentation, written, oral and visual,tothe professional and non-professional audience, be able to defend and substantiate through arguments the required steps and actions taken to solve the set or identified projectiontasks

 

5. be able to introduce the ideas in 2D and 3D graphic formats accomplished both manually and using latest computer programmes

 

6. be able to accomplish projects addressed to ensure human comfort in everyday life and in line with the new requirements of the environment, by combining acquired professional knowledge and skills and demonstrating creative approach.

 

7. have skills to work in different design groups and be able to easily cooperate with specialists of different fields working on the same project.

 

8. introduce himself as an independent professional designer who demonstrates readiness and willingness to constantly develop his skills based on national and universal cultural and professional values regularly deepening the ability to perceive, analyze, provide creative solutions and skillfully collaborate with clients and partners.

 

 

Academic environment

 

SAFAA has created a unique environment enabling the teaching to be combined with peer learning, the demonstration of individual approach to students, promoting inclusiveness and formation of academic culture.

 

The educational process in the academic programme of “Industrial design” stands out with its continuous, experimental and interactive methods of teaching and learning, combining traditional academic and modern approaches. Appropriate conditions are created at SAFAA to apply theoretical knowledge in laboratories, working on real projects that will develop and strengthen research abilities, teamwork skills as well as creative, critical and design thinking.

 

Particular attention is attached to self-learning that opens up new horizons for students to their paths of self-establishment as individual designers and work with various representatives of design and arts as well as related fields.

 

 

Curriculum (2021-2022 ac. year)

 

Learning and teaching of academic programme of Industrial design is carried out in auditoriums, laboratories and design studios. Professional teaching staff introduces and guides students to modern technological approaches and best traditions; the former also combine the courses with master classes of guest specialists of the given field.

 

 

I year

 

The first year of teaching is designed to familiarize students with the professional content enabling them to gain the basic theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in industrial design.

 

 

II year

 

The second study year is intended to deepen and develop already gained knowledge as well as to form and elaborate students’ technical professional skills, transferring deep and comprehensive knowledge and skills on materials and production technologies. At the end of study year the students will actualize their first project.

 

 

III year

 

The 3rd study year will develop students’ teamwork skills. During the studies they will acquire the required analytical-research knowledge so important for an industrial designer and will be proficient in using the toolkit intended for that purpose.

 

This study level will facilitate the student’s integration to the working environment; work on projects based on real market demands․

 

 

IV year

 

In the 4thyear of studying thestudents will work on pre-defined and assigned final work that will be guided by supervisor. In the final year the students will carry out their own final project taking into account all the required and important cycles of the work.
